Rifampicin-Free Regimen Benefits Elderly MAC-PD Patients

A study on 102 elderly MAC-PD patients found that a two-drug regimen of ethambutol and macrolides, without rifampicin, improved treatment tolerability (p=0.026). Patients in this group showed better symptom relief, sputum conversion rates, and CT scores. Gastrointestinal disorders, likely linked to rifampicin, were the most common adverse reactions. The regimen was non-inferior in efficacy, with no macrolide resistance observed.
