This retrospective cohort study involving 116 pregnant women with cervical incompetence aimed to identify predictive risk factors for high-stage histological chorioamnionitis (HCA). The severity of HCA was associated with cervical morphology, cerclage indication, cerclage type, and cervical length. V-type funneling and short cervix emerged as independent risk factors for severe HCA after adjusting for confounders. The study concludes that identifying these risk factors, particularly through placental histological examination, can enhance prenatal and postpartum treatment strategies, thereby improving outcomes in cerclaged populations, especially in high-risk pregnancies.
