Risk Factors for Recalcitrant Chronic Rhinosinusitis in Non-Solid and Solid Transplant Recipients

This study compared the incidence of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) requiring endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) between solid and non-solid organ transplant recipients. Out of the 224 ESS patients, 76.3% had solid transplants, while 23.6% had non-solid transplants. The incidence of ESS was higher in solid transplant recipients (57%) compared to non-solid transplant recipients (28.2%). The risk of recalcitrant CRS was nearly 1.78 times higher in solid organ transplant recipients than in non-solid organ transplant recipients. Certain factors, such as immunotherapy drugs, pancytopenia, and rejection, correlated with the risk of ESS in both types of transplants. The study concluded that solid organ transplant recipients had a greater risk of requiring ESS than those with non-solid organ transplants.
