This cross-sectional observational study aimed to analyze the prevalence and risk factors of sarcopenia in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC). A total of 617 patients were included, and sarcopenia was diagnosed using bioelectrical impedance analysis and the 2019 diagnostic criteria of the Asian Sarcopenia Working Group. The study found that 18.6% of patients had sarcopenia, with a higher prevalence in males (29.1%) compared to females (8%). Independent risk factors for sarcopenia included older age, excess body fat, and male sex, while higher body mass index (BMI) and total body water/fat-free mass (TBW/FFM) were identified as protective factors.
