A study examined the effectiveness of a mix-and-match COVID-19 vaccination strategy using ChAdOx1 nCOV-19, mRNA-1273, BNT162b2, and MVC-COV1901 vaccines in Taiwan's healthcare workers during the Omicron variant's prevalence. Among 21,729 workers, 3,672 infections were recorded without severe cases or deaths. Two key findings emerged: 1) Boosting ChAdOx1 nCOV-19 with BNT162b2 slightly lowered infection risk versus mRNA-1273 boosters, and 2) mRNA-1273 boosters for HCWs led to higher infection risk with mixed primary series but lower risk with homologous mRNA-1273 series. The study suggests varying infection risk reductions with mix-and-match strategies.
