The study investigates the efficacy of Risperidone, an atypical antipsychotic, in treating functional retentive overflow incontinence (retentive FI) in children. A double-blind, randomized trial with 140 participants aged 4-16 showed that Risperidone, in conjunction with non-pharmacological interventions, had a significant impact on diurnal FI in children with psychiatric comorbidities. No significant differences were observed in nocturnal FI, diurnal FI, or painful defecations in patients without psychiatric comorbidities. The findings suggest that Risperidone may be a helpful adjunct in treating FI in pediatric patients with psychiatric comorbidities.
