
The study explores the effects of paroxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant, on testicular function in male rats. It investigated how paroxetine influences steroidogenesis, macrophage populations, and oxidative stress associated with TNF-α. The study also examined whether these changes are reversible after discontinuing treatment. Findings revealed that paroxetine's serotonergic impact led to impaired steroidogenesis, alterations in estrogen/testosterone ratios, increased oxidative stress, and reduced sperm production. Importantly, these effects persisted even after treatment cessation, shedding light on the potential long-term consequences of paroxetine use in males.
