
A recent study involving 1216 patients undergoing mandibular third molar extractions utilized dental cone beam computed tomography to analyze root morphology about mental nerve paresthesia risk. Examining 1534 teeth in 791 patients, researchers identified factors such as age, complete root formation, periodontal ligament atrophy, hypercementosis, and mandibular canal deformation. Completion of mandibular third molar root formation between ages 19 and 30 was observed. The study highlights that complete root formation and mandibular canal deformation increase the risk of mental nerve paresthesia, suggesting early extraction before complete root formation could reduce this risk.
