Early clinical data from studies of the NVX-CoV2373 vaccine (Novavax), a recombinant nanoparticle vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 that contains the full-length spike glycoprotein of the prototype strain plus Matrix-M adjuvant, showed that the vaccine was safe and associated with a robust immune response in healthy adult participants. Infections were reported in 10 participants in the vaccine group and in 96 in the placebo group, with a symptom onset of at least 7 days after the second injection, for a vaccine efficacy of 89.7% (95% confidence interval [CI], 80.2 to 94.6). No hospitalizations or deaths were reported among the 10 cases in the vaccine group. A two-dose regimen of the NVX-CoV2373 vaccine administered to adult participants conferred 89.7% protection against SARS-CoV-2 infection and showed high efficacy against the B.1.1.7 variant.

A retrospective study of 66 patients with Budd–Chiari syndrome found that liver stiffness measurement (LSM) effectively distinguished controlled from uncontrolled clinical status, with an AUC of 0.985. An LSM cutoff of 25 kPa achieved 97.5% sensitivity and 92.5% specificity. Spleen stiffness provided complementary but inferior diagnostic performance.

A newly developed evidence-based guideline provides recommendations for diagnosing, staging, and managing keratoconus in children and adults. Using systematic evidence synthesis and the GRADE approach, it addresses corneal cross-linking, intrastromal corneal ring segments, keratoplasty, and individualized follow-up. Most recommendations remain conditional because evidence certainty is low or very low in several clinical areas.

UROLOGY

An analysis of 854 women from the European Prevention of Alzheimer’s Dementia cohort found that higher serum estradiol was associated with lower baseline tau levels in cerebrospinal fluid, particularly among APOE ε4 carriers. A Colombian nationwide study reports chILD prevalence of 3.32 per 100,000 children and rising annual case rates.

A nationwide Colombian study identified 4,608 healthcare encounters related to childhood interstitial and diffuse lung disease (chILD) from 2016–2024. Average annual prevalence was 3.32 per 100,000 children, highest among infants and with a secondary rise during adolescence. Reported cases increased annually (IRR 1.022), while declining markedly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
