A recent study, the CLEAN-PCD trial, has shown promising results for individuals with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). Researchers tested the efficacy of idrevloride, an epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) blocker, in combination with hypertonic saline for improving lung function in PCD patients. The trial involved 123 participants and found that idrevloride in hypertonic saline led to significant improvements in lung function compared to hypertonic saline alone. Adverse events were comparable across treatments, with cough being more prevalent in idrevloride or hypertonic saline groups. This study suggests potential benefits for PCD patients and calls for further, larger-scale investigations.

Using systematic evidence synthesis and the GRADE approach, it addresses corneal cross-linking, intrastromal corneal ring segments, keratoplasty, and individualized follow-up. Most recommendations remain conditional because evidence certainty is low or very low in several clinical areas.

UROLOGY

A nationwide Colombian study identified 4,608 healthcare encounters related to childhood interstitial and diffuse lung disease (chILD) from 2016–2024. Average annual prevalence was 3.32 per 100,000 children, highest among infants and with a secondary rise during adolescence. Reported cases increased annually (IRR 1.022), while declining markedly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
