A retrospective study reviewed adverse events associated with inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) therapy managed by nurses in a critical care transportation program. The study included patients transported from March 2020 to August 2022. Adverse events recorded were hypotension, hypoxemia, arrhythmia, elevated nitrogen dioxide levels, methemoglobinemia, and cardiac arrest. Among the 15 patients diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection, iNO was continued for 10 patients and initiated for 8 patients. Hypotension occurred in 16.7% of patients, but all cases were successfully managed with medication titration. No patients experienced worsening hypoxemia, elevated nitrogen dioxide levels, methemoglobinemia, or cardiac arrest. The study suggests that appropriately trained nurses can safely administer iNO therapy.
