Safety of Vaginal Estrogen Therapy for Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause in Women With a History of Breast Cancer

A study examined the risk of breast cancer recurrence associated with vaginal estrogen therapy in women with menopause-related genitourinary syndrome and a history of breast cancer. The study involved over 42,000 individuals and showed that vaginal estrogen use did not elevate the risk of breast cancer recurrence within 5 years. This suggests that vaginal estrogen therapy might be safe for breast cancer survivors with menopause symptoms. The study considered different estrogen receptor statuses and yielded promising outcomes.
