Scientists have discovered a potential breakthrough in the early detection of oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) using a unique saliva-based test. By analyzing specific microRNAs in salivary extracellular vesicles and particles, a signature of six microRNAs has been identified that effectively distinguishes ESCC patients from healthy individuals. This signature not only accurately identified ESCC patients in a training group but also demonstrated consistent results in two independent validation groups. Notably, the test showed promising capability in detecting early-stage ESCC cases, marking a significant advancement in noninvasive cancer risk assessment.
