Salvage holmium laser enucleation of the prostate after previous interventions: a systematic review

The study investigated the feasibility, safety, and effectiveness of Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) as a salvage treatment for recurrent or residual benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) compared to the primary HoLEP procedure. A total of 12 studies were analyzed, including 831 patients who underwent salvage HoLEP. The results showed that salvage HoLEP was a viable and safe option, with comparable intraoperative parameters to primary HoLEP and significantly improved postoperative outcomes. The procedure proved efficient in treating recurrent or residual BPH symptoms, making HoLEP an ideal salvage treatment modality for such cases.
