A study conducted in Belgian schools assessed the implementation of infection prevention and control (IPC) measures and their impact on the prevalence of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies among pupils and staff. The study found that more than 60% of schools implemented a variety of IPC measures, with a focus on hygiene. In January 2021, schools with poor implementation of IPC measures had higher prevalence rates of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies among both pupils and staff compared to schools with thorough implementation. The association between poor implementation and higher prevalence was statistically significant when considering all IPC measures together. Overall, the study highlights the importance of effective IPC measures in reducing SARS-CoV-2 transmission in schools.
