Searching for a Vulnerable Cardiovascular Endotype in Obstructive Sleep Apnea: Is the Humble Pulse Wave a Useful Biomarker?

Solelhac and colleagues conducted a study analyzing data from three different cohorts to investigate the association between a photoplethysmographic pulse wave amplitude attenuation (PWAD) index and cardiovascular events in individuals with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The study found that a higher PWAD index was associated with a reduced risk of incident cardiovascular events in individuals with OSA. The results were consistent across the three cohorts, indicating the potential prognostic value of the PWAD index. The study provides stronger evidence supporting the involvement of both OSA and the PWAD index in the development of cardiovascular disease.
