Selecting the right treatment for Takayasu's Arteritis: Secukinumab vs TNF inhibitors

The study aimed to compare the efficacy of secukinumab, an IL-17A monoclonal antibody, to TNF inhibitors (TNFis) in the treatment of Takayasu's arteritis (TAK). This was a single center, open-label cohort study that enrolled 19 patients in the secukinumab group and 34 patients in the TNFi group. The results showed that both treatments were effective for patients with TAK who failed to respond to oral glucocorticoids and conventional immunosuppressive agents, with similar response rates at 3 and 6 months. The study suggests that both secukinumab and TNFis can be used as add-on therapies in the treatment of TAK.
