
The retrospective study of 131 sphenoid fracture cases found that fractures involving the carotid canal were significantly associated with blunt cerebrovascular injuries on CTA, while fractures limited to the temporal bone or greater sphenoid wing were not. With 11.4% of CTA scans detecting vascular injury, findings support a selective imaging approach, reserving CTA for high-risk fracture patterns to optimize patient care and reduce unnecessary imaging.
