Sex-Based Differences in Achilles and Patellar Tendon Stiffness

The meta-analysis of 32 studies investigated sex-related differences in tendon stiffness. Results showed that males have significantly higher Achilles and patellar tendon stiffness compared to females, while quadriceps tendon stiffness did not differ between sexes. These biomechanical differences may contribute to the sex-specific prevalence and risk of tendon injuries. Understanding these disparities could aid in developing tailored injury prevention and rehabilitation strategies for both sexes.
