SGLT2 Inhibitors Effective in Transthyretin Cardiomyopathy Study

A study assessed the effectiveness and tolerability of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) in 2,356 patients with transthyretin cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM). Results showed that SGLT2i treatment, with a discontinuation rate of 4.5%, was associated with less worsening of NYHA functional class, N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide, estimated glomerular filtration rate, and fewer new initiations of loop diuretic therapy over 12 months. Over a median of 28 months, SGLT2i therapy was linked to lower all-cause mortality (HR: 0.57), cardiovascular mortality (HR: 0.41), heart failure hospitalization (HR: 0.57), and the composite of cardiovascular mortality and heart failure hospitalization (HR: 0.57). The findings suggest that SGLT2i was well tolerated and beneficial for heart failure symptoms, renal function, and reducing mortality in ATTR-CM patients.
