Short implants: Influence of different diameters, torques, and transmucosal heights of straight prosthetic abutments on screw preload loss after cycling

This study investigated the impact of different factors on the loosening of abutments installed on short implants. Morse taper connection implants were used, with varying platform diameters (4mm or 6mm), insertion torques (20Ncm or 32Ncm), and transmucosal heights (1mm or 5mm). After subjecting the implants to mechanical cycling, detorque values were measured. The results showed that implants with 20Ncm insertion torque had lower detorque values compared to those with 32Ncm insertion torque, regardless of platform diameter or transmucosal height. In the 20Ncm group, there were no significant differences between platform diameters or transmucosal heights. However, in the 32Ncm group, smaller platform diameters (4mm) and longer transmucosal heights (5mm) had the lowest detorque values. Implants with 32Ncm insertion torque, abutments with 1mm transmucosal height, and a 6mm implant diameter exhibited the highest detorque values.
