
According to a 2015 census conducted by the government of India, it was discovered that nearly 20 million people in the country are affected by sickle cell anaemia. Previously believed to be a disease predominantly found in tribal areas, the spread of the illness has been facilitated by the migration of people from villages to towns and cities over the past few decades. The main challenge lies in detecting the disease, as the current HPLC test requires patients to visit a detection center.
