Significance of Gestational-Age-Specific PlGF Cutoff Values in Predicting Early Onset Pre-eclampsia in High-Risk Women

In a prospective cohort study conducted at a tertiary care hospital between September 2019 and April 2022, the materno-fetal outcomes of high-risk women with pre-eclampsia risk factors were assessed by measuring placental growth factor (PlGF) levels at 20-22, 28-30, and 34-36 weeks of gestation. Out of 287 high-risk women, 16% developed pre-eclampsia. The study established PlGF cutoff values of 224, 211, and 176 pg/mL at the respective time points. Low PlGF at 28-30 weeks was significantly associated with early onset pre-eclampsia, preterm delivery, and early onset fetal growth restriction. The PlGF cutoff should be specific to gestational age for accurate prediction.
