Simulated Daylight PDT Less Effective but Less Painful for sBCC

The randomized trial compared simulated daylight photodynamic therapy (SDL-PDT) with conventional PDT (C-PDT) for superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC). After one year, clearance rates were 62.4% (SDL-PDT) vs. 91.8% (C-PDT) (p < 0.001), disproving non-inferiority. SDL-PDT caused significantly less pain (NRS 0.1 vs. 3.5–3.7; p < 0.001). Despite lower efficacy, 87.5% of patients preferred SDL-PDT. SDL-PDT may be an alternative for pain-sensitive individuals.
