A study revealed a crucial link between long-term glycemic memory and diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) in type 2 diabetes patients. Skin autofluorescence (SAF) of Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs) emerges as a critical indicator. Out of 517 patients, the study found that SAF levels exceeding 2.65 AU significantly predict DFU development. SAF proves an even stronger predictor for those without a prior DFU history. However, this predictive ability must improve for those with previous DFU experiences. This study sheds light on early DFU detection and prevention in diabetes management.
