Sleep Irregularity Links to Adolescent Mental Health

This study highlights the impact of sleep irregularity on adolescent mental health. Using the Sleep Regularity Index (SRI), researchers found irregular sleep patterns were associated with reduced sleep efficiency, shorter sleep duration, and social jetlag. Sleep irregularity also correlated with substance use and increased depressive symptoms over six months. These associations persisted after accounting for total sleep time. The findings suggest that SRI could be a modifiable factor for enhancing adolescent mental health through improved sleep consistency.
