The article evaluates a clinical study examining the differences in the oral and nasal microbial diversity, composition, and structure between pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients and controls. The study found that the microbiome of pediatric OSA patients had significant differences in composition compared with controls. The study identified the increased abundance of Haemophilus, Fusobacterium, and Porphyromonas at adenoid and tonsils sites of pediatric OSA patients, and differential pathway involved glycerophospholipids and amino acid metabolism. However, the data could only be used as a reference for future studies on the upper airway microbiome.
