Sociodemographic Disparities in Tracheostomy Timing and Outcomes

The study explored tracheostomy timing's impact and sociodemographic factors on outcomes. Among ventilator-dependent patients, non-English speakers and females were more prone to late tracheostomy. Despite a connection between earlier tracheostomy and shorter hospital stays, standardized protocols are suggested to counter bias, particularly for non-English speakers and females, reducing unwarranted hospitalization.
