A study analyzed data from 541 healthy patients under 19 years old with various income levels, BMI percentiles, and racial backgrounds. Researchers found that socioeconomic status (SES) significantly influences predicted peak oxygen consumption (pVO2) among children. Results indicated that racial disparities in fitness were significant but diminished when adjusted for SES. This research highlights the importance of considering social determinants of health in assessing pediatric cardiovascular fitness, aiding healthcare providers in making informed decisions.
