
A study of nearly 2,900 older adults identified seven spatial patterns of white matter hyperintensities (WMHs), revealing distinct links to dementia and stroke. WMHs in frontoparietal and anterior periventricular areas were tied to blood pressure, cognition, and stroke, while juxtacortical-deep occipital WMHs were linked to dementia and brain hemorrhage, independent of vascular risk.
