A clinical trial called the COVID Antithrombotic Rivaroxaban Evaluation (CARE) study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of antithrombotic prophylaxis with rivaroxaban in reducing the risk of venous or arterial thrombotic events, invasive ventilatory support, and death in COVID-19 outpatients. The study is a multicenter, randomized, open-label, controlled trial with a primary composite endpoint of venous thromboembolism, invasive mechanical ventilation, major acute cardiovascular events, and mortality within 30 days of randomization. A machine learning study involving 4,900 critically ill patients with COPD and sepsis developed a naive Bayes model to predict in-hospital mortality. Prospective multicentre validation is needed before routine clinical use.
