A study investigated the association between stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) and adverse outcomes in the general adult population of the United States. Using data from NHANES with 13,315 participants, the study found a U-shaped relationship between SHR and all-cause mortality and diabetes mellitus mortality. Higher SHR was significantly linked to increased risks of both outcomes. Mediation analysis revealed specific biomarkers influencing this association. The findings suggest that SHR could serve as a predictor for mortality risks, particularly in individuals under 65 years old and in women.
