Study Compares Hydrophobic vs. Hydrophilic IOLs in Uveitis

A randomized controlled trial at Sahlgrenska University Hospital/Mölndal assessed inflammatory response, visual acuity, and complications in cataract surgery patients receiving hydrophobic or hydrophilic intraocular lenses (IOLs). The study included 34 uveitic and 22 non-uveitic patients. No significant differences were found in postoperative flare, corrected distance visual acuity, or cystoid macular edema rates between IOL types. Both IOLs improved visual acuity, suggesting no clear advantage of one material over the other for uveitic patients.
