The IP8-FLUORESCE study investigates the use of fluorescence confocal microscopy (FCM) for detecting surgical margins in prostate cancer. This multicentre, prospective, ex vivo, and blinded comparative cohort study aims to assess FCM’s accuracy compared to traditional histopathology in 153 patients undergoing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RP) across three UK tertiary referral centres. Prostate specimens are scanned using the Histolog® Scanner following immersion in Acridine Orange solution and analyzed by independent uro-pathologists. The primary endpoint is the accuracy of FCM for detecting prostate cancer at surgical margins, evaluated with sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values. Recruitment began on August 17, 2023, marking a step towards advancing intraoperative techniques with cost-effective, rapid imaging solutions.

An experimental triple antibiotic paste containing nitrofurantoin, ciprofloxacin, and metronidazole showed better cytocompatibility than conventional Hoshino antibiotic pastes and calcium hydroxide in human dental pulp stem cells. The paste maintained about 75% metabolic activity and better preserved cell viability, supporting further investigation as a medicament for regenerative endodontic procedures.

As a single-arm study, the findings are descriptive and require controlled confirmation.
