Study Finds Alternative Exercise Testing Parameters Effective in Heart Failure Patients

A study investigated the prognostic value of nonmetabolic exercise testing parameters in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Analyzing data from 1,067 HFrEF patients who underwent cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), researchers found that higher hemodynamic gain index (HGI) and peak rate-pressure product (RPP) were associated with improved event-free survival. HGI and peak RPP showed comparable prognostic value to the standard peak oxygen consumption (peak Vo2). These findings suggest that HGI and peak RPP could serve as viable alternatives for risk assessment in HFrEF patients.
