This study explores how bone marrow-derived cells contribute to endothelial populations in the heart and their impact on cardiac function and coronary circulation after repetitive ischemia (RI). Using chimeric rats transplanted with GFP+ bone marrow cells, researchers found improved cardiac function and myocardial blood flow post-RI, with increased capillary density. Single-cell RNA sequencing revealed diverse endothelial cell subpopulations in the heart, including angiogenic profiles in RI rats. This research highlights the potential for targeted therapeutic strategies in myocardial ischemia by understanding bone marrow-derived endothelial cell heterogeneity and their response to ischemic conditions.
