A study analyzing 350 patients with SLE-related thrombocytopenia (SLE-TP) investigated the impact of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPLs) on disease severity and prognosis. Of these patients, 55.4% tested positive for aPLs. Findings revealed that SLE-TP patients with aPLs experienced lower baseline platelet counts, more severe disease presentations, and higher rates of relapse during follow-up compared to those without aPLs. Moreover, increased aPL types were associated with decreased platelet counts and poorer outcomes. The study underscores the significant role of aPLs in influencing the severity and prognosis of SLE-TP, emphasizing the importance of considering aPLs status in the management and treatment strategies for these patients.
