
The study investigated the association between brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and periodontitis. Analyzing 3,311 participants, it found significant associations between periodontitis and serum levels of PBDE-47 (OR 1.15, 95% CI 1.01–1.29), PBDE-99 (OR 1.10, 95% CI 1.01–1.20), and PBDE-154 (OR 1.12, 95% CI 1.01–1.25). These BFRs were also linked to increased periodontitis severity. Bayesian kernel machine regression analysis indicated a significant relationship between the combined exposure to all twelve BFRs and periodontitis. The results suggest that exposure to specific BFRs may be associated with periodontitis and its severity, warranting further research to confirm these findings.
