Study Links Lactate Dehydrogenase to Albumin Ratio (LAR) with Sepsis-Associated Acute Kidney Injury

A study conducted on 4,087 sepsis patients investigated the predictive impact of the lactate dehydrogenase to albumin ratio (LAR) for sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SAKI). The study found that elevated LAR levels at 12 hours before and after sepsis diagnosis were independently associated with an increased risk of developing SAKI. The LAR showed a positive linear association with the risk of SAKI and had a moderate clinical value for predicting SAKI. Furthermore, the predictive value of LAR for SAKI development was affected by the presence of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The study concluded that chronic comorbidities, particularly a history of CKD, should be considered when using LAR to predict the development of acute kidney injury in sepsis patients. These findings shed light on the potential clinical significance of LAR in identifying patients at risk of SAKI.
