A twin study of 354 monozygotic (MZ) and 268 same-sex dizygotic (DZ) infant twins assessed parent-child interaction (PCI) at 5 months and its relationship to child development at ages 2-3. The heritability of PCI traits was below 20%, with unique environmental influences shaping traits. Factor analysis revealed three latent factors: a child's negative affect, positive affective interaction, and parents' supportive strategies. Parents' sensitive responsiveness was linked to improved socio-communication and language skills, and fewer autistic traits, in later childhood.
