In a retrospective longitudinal observational cohort study, the association between the triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) and future renal function decline was investigated in 10,758 individuals. High TyG index was significantly associated with a ≥ 25% decrease in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) over a mean follow-up period of 37.8 months. This association remained consistent across various subgroups. The TyG index shows potential as a simple marker for identifying individuals at risk for future renal function decline during health checkups.
