Study on depletion of ovarian function and late‐life chronic diseases in India

This cross-sectional study analyzed data from the Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI) to examine the relationship between premature/early menopause and chronic conditions. Approximately 8% of older women reported experiencing premature menopause, while 12.4% reported early menopause. The study found that women with premature menopause had a 15% higher likelihood of developing cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), while those with early menopause had a 13% higher risk. Smoking further increased the risk of CVDs in women with premature menopause. Other chronic conditions like bone/joint problems, diabetes, and vision problems were also prevalent among women with premature ovarian failure. The study emphasizes the need for comprehensive strategies to manage hormonal levels and promote healthy aging.
