
A study assessed pelvic floor muscle (PFM) surface electromyography (sEMG) in primiparous women 6–8 weeks postpartum, comparing vaginal birth and cesarean section outcomes. The study analyzed 543 women; abnormalities were chiefly observed in slow muscle (type I fibre) and endurance testing stages, with lower incidence post-cesarean section. Significant differences in sEMG values were noted between delivery modes. Vaginal birth was associated with more influencing factors on sEMG, including maternal age, height, weight, and labor stages, compared to cesarean section. Maternal factors like age, weight gain during pregnancy, and newborn weight were significant in cesarean section cases. These findings underscore the impact of delivery mode on postpartum PFM sEMG and highlight maternal characteristics contributing to abnormalities.
