Study Reveals Effectiveness of DRO in Moderate and Severe Tic Disorders, Yet Challenges Persists

In lieu of pharmacological options with potential risks, behavioural tic suppression techniques, particularly Differential Reinforcement of Other Behaviors therapy (DRO), have gained attention. Despite limited studies and statistical power, our meta-analysis of eight interventions involving 79 children with tic disorders demonstrates DRO's efficacy in reducing tic frequency (pooled SMD: -10.25, 95% CI: -14.71 to -5.79). DRO proves effective for both moderate and severe tic disorders but faces implementation challenges beyond experimental settings.
