A recent study at a large academic pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) between August 12, 2022, and March 31, 2023, evaluated caregivers' health literacy for critically ill children. Of the 48 surveyed caregivers, 79% exhibited adequate health literacy using the Newest Vital Sign screener, available in English and Spanish. Caregivers, mostly English-speaking mothers and White individuals found participation in morning rounds beneficial, regardless of health literacy. Provider focus groups highlighted implementation facilitators and barriers, with screening timing and personnel identified as modifiable factors for improvement.

The model could refine diagnosis and help redefine the biological limits of vital pulp therapy.

Varenicline increased tear production but needs further comparative validation.
