Study Reveals Higher Severity of Bladder and Bowel Dysfunction in Pediatrics with Neuropsychiatric Developmental

An observational study found that pediatric patients with neuropsychiatric developmental disorders exhibited more severe bladder and bowel dysfunction than the control group, resulting in lower quality of life. After one year of standard treatment, the neuropsychiatric group showed diminished improvement compared to the control group. The odds of full symptom resolution were 5.7 times higher in the control group. Additionally, a cost analysis revealed 15.4% higher medication costs for the neuropsychiatric group. The study highlights the need to manage expectations for higher treatment resistance in the functional bladder and bowel issues.
