A study shed light on the impact of birth depression on neurodevelopment. The study involved 408 infants with moderate or severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) in South Asia, comparing those with long-birth depression (prolonged positive pressure ventilation or low Apgar scores) to those with short-birth depression. Results showed the extended depression group had more severe HIE, higher mortality rates, and increased disability at 18 months. This study offers crucial insights into neonatal care in resource-constrained regions.
