Study Reveals Link Between Inflammageing Markers and Frailty in Aging Population

Frailty, an age-related condition reflecting increased vulnerability, was assessed using various questionnaires and indexes in a cohort study of 317 individuals aged 25–90. Four frailty measures correlated strongly with age and BMI. Nineteen Inflammageing markers showed associations with age, with some exhibiting linear patterns and others plateauing at certain ages. After adjusting for age and BMI, markers like IL-6, CRP, IL-1RA, YKL-40, and elastase were linked to frailty, suggesting a connection between innate immune activation and age-related health decline marked by low-grade inflammation.
