Study Reveals Link Between Oxidative Stress and Generalized Anxiety Disorder: Implications for Future Treatments

A recent study explored the neurobiological basis of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) by analyzing serum levels of S100B, 8-OHdG, and oxidative stress in newly diagnosed GAD patients. The research involved 44 GAD patients and 44 healthy controls, assessing anxiety levels with the Beck Anxiety Inventory. GAD patients exhibited significantly higher 8-OHdG values, indicating potential DNA damage from oxidative stress. Although S100B levels were elevated in the GAD group, further research is needed to confirm its role in GAD etiology and pathogenesis. These findings emphasize the link between oxidative stress and GAD.
