Study Reveals Link Between Postoperative Platelet Count and Cardiovascular Risks in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Patients

A retrospective cohort study on adults who underwent septal myectomy over a 5-year period at a tertiary referral center. The study analyzed 113 patients and discovered that those with a nadir platelet count ≤ 99 × 109/L had a significantly higher incidence (33.3%) of postoperative cardiovascular events within 30 days compared to those with a count > 99 × 109/L (7.1%). Multivariable analysis confirmed the negative linear association (adjusted odds ratio: 0.97). Findings suggest the importance of monitoring platelet count for predicting cardiovascular complications post-surgery in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy patients.
